If you want to learn about managed switches and VLANs and other more advanced features on layer 2 and layer 3 networking, I would recommend you send that thing back and get a Cisco 3750E or 3750X. I have a USB-C console cable (I don't have any hardware at home with a 9pin serial port) arriving from Amazon tomorrow but if anyone can describe how to change the IP, or point me to a guide that actually works I'd be super grateful. If I need to use VLANs to change the IP address then I'm a bit goosed until I learn how to use VLANs.

The reason I got this switch was so I could learn about VLANs. I've also tried creating a new VLAN (10), assigning it to port 8, and assigning 192.168.0.7/24 to VLAN 10 but I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to VLANs. I've tried using the method outlined here that uses commands in a text file that are uploaded to the switch but it just seemed to cause the switch to hang and I had to hard reset it. Besides, if I change the default (and current) IP address how do I complete the config, i.e. I've tried SSHing in and running "configure" then "interface vlan 1" then "ip address 192.168.0.7 255.255.255.0" but then the switch hung and I couldn't seem to connect via 192.168.1.254 nor 192.168.0.7. You can't change the IP of the default VLAN 1 via the web frontend, the static IP address field isn't available for input. I've updated it to the latest firmware, 2.5.0.92, and reset to factory defaults after the upgrade. How in the blazing f*£& do I change the static IP address of a Cisco SG350-10 without using a console cable?
